About Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT) / Host Institution
Sikkim Manipal University came into existence on 15 November 1992 due to the agreement signed between the Government of Sikkim and the Manipal Pai Foundation. Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology was established in 1997 as a constituent college of Sikkim Manipal University and is approved by AICTE. The first technological campus of Sikkim offers high-quality technical education and promotes the holistic growth of the students. A fully residential campus and endowed with natural beauty makes it ideal for students to emerge as potential nation builders.

SMIT offers undergraduates, postgraduate, and Ph.D. in various disciplines of engineering, science, and management. SMIT has its campus at Majitar, East-Sikkim, about 5 km from Rangpo (West Bengal Border). The institute's location is on the banks of river Teesta, surrounded by green hills, making it an ideal place for learning.
About Department
Department of Chemistry was established in 1997 along with SMIT. The department has moved forward with the opening of M.Sc. in Chemistry from 2003 onwards. The department focuses on exposing the students to the latest development in the field of Chemistry and is endowed with vibrant and dynamic faculty, well qualified to impart high-quality teaching.
The department has a well-equipped lab with sophisticated equipment (DST-FIST sponsored). Also, it has research projects with several Ph.D. scholars. Moreover, it has a Society of Chemical Sciences (SCS) comprising students and teachers. It organizes seminars, workshops, popular lectures in Science and Chemistry regularly. The department had successfully organized RTC – 2012 in January 2012, RTC – 2017 in February 2017 and ICSPMIA – 2018 in October 2018.
